AllGreenedUp is strongly motivated by environmental and sustainability objectives. A core intent of the business is to demonstrably help families reduce their environmental impact. We do this by focusing on local (NSW) produce and then produce from elsewhere in Australia.

AllGreenedUp never buys fruit or vegetables imported from overseas.

Amazingly, despite the range of climates across Australia, many common fruit and vegetable items sold in Australian shops and supermarkets are imported .... oranges and onions from California, snap and snow peas from China and Garlic from Mexico and asparagus from Peru are just some of the examples of air-freighted produce that carry a hidden but relatively heavy greenhouse gas emissions impact compared to locally-sourced produce.

We aim to buy produce that is locally ‘in season’, thereby avoiding vegetables and fruit that are transported long distances under energy-intensive refrigeration conditions.

We consistently avoid buying products that have excessive plastic or foam tray packaging, and only rarely will you receive any plastic wrapping in your produce box.

Some wholesale produce at Flemington is nearly always packed in waxed cardboard or polystyrene boxes (for example celery, lettuces, corn, loose carrots).  AllGreenedUp returns all these boxes to Flemington markets where traders are happy to take them back for re-use.

The boxes used for delivery to group members are recyclable via the local Council’s paper/cardboard recycling service.

By limiting our delivery service to one vehicle covering just three local suburbs AllGreenedUp avoids significant fuel usage and minimises our contribution to Sydney’s road congestion problems. Despite interest in our service from beyond postcodes 2039, 2040 and 2041 we have made a clear ethical decision to ‘keep it local’.

We use raintank water and natural evaporative cooling to meet any produce cooling needs and no electricity is used during AllGreenedUp’s produce handling, purchasing and delivery operations.
